History of Ajmer 

Ajayaraja Singh Chauhan, the ruler of the Chauhan dynasty founded Ajmer in the 7th century. The original name of the city was “Ajay Meru” which means unbeatable hills. However, the city was developed a lot by a heroic king, Prithvi Raj Chauhan during the 12th century. 

During a war in 1192, he was killed by a Muslim warrior, Muhammad Ghori.  This led to the dominance of Muslims in the northern part of India. Later on, the Delhi and Mughals also ruled over Ajmer. Moreover, Ajmer became famous for its governance and culture.

In the 16th century, the Mughal emperor Akbar built the Akbari fort, famously known as the Ajmer fort. However, in the 19th century, the Britishers ruled and made their government over Ajmer. This led to the development of education in Ajmer. 

In 1875, the Britishers established Mayo College, India’s first public boarding school. This made Ajmer a well-known education hub. Post-independence, Ajmer officially became part of Rajasthan.

Ajmer’s Adhai din ka Jhonpra is a historical site built with Indian and Islamic architecture. In 1198, Qutub- ud – din aibak constructed this place after he took over Ajmer. till 1153, the place was a Sanskrit college.  And later in 1198, it became a mosque. 

The place’s name explains itself as “the hut of two and a half days”, referring to the mosque being built in very less time. The mosque has beautiful domes, stunning carvings, and huge pillars built in Islamic and Indian styles.

The place is quite old but its beauty and artistry still attract many tourists, which makes it one of the top attractions of Ajmer. 

Ana Sagar Lake – Where Water Meets History

Ana Sagar Lake is one of the largest and most gorgeous artificial lakes in India. Aanaji Chauhan, the grandfather of Prithviraj Chauhan constructed the lake.  The amazing spot attracts many locals as well as tourists because of its heavenly views.
